تم اختبار تريسور بواسطة Stiftung Warentest

Stiftung Warentest, respectively Stiftung Warentest Finanztest, has now tested Trisor's safe deposit box offering twice - providing an independent perspective on what many customers report in their everyday Trisor reviews. Many prospective customers search for Trisor reviews and wonder how safe and reliable the service is compared to traditional bank safe deposit boxes - demand for a safe deposit box remains high, while the supply from banks and savings banks continues to shrink.

Reviews of Trisor are overwhelmingly positive, and Stiftung Warentest backs that up with independent figures: in terms of availability, insurance coverage and flexibility, Trisor performs well compared to traditional bank safe deposit boxes. Customers also particularly value 24/7 access without needing an appointment, and the high level of security provided by certified vaults.

Update July 2026: What the new Stiftung Warentest comparison shows

The trigger for the latest study (Finanztest, issue 8/2026) was a break-in at a savings bank branch in Gelsenkirchen-Buer over the 2025 Christmas holidays: criminals broke open almost all of the roughly 3,250 safe deposit boxes there, with an estimated damage of 30 million euros. Stiftung Warentest subsequently re-examined the market - it had last done so in May 2024. This changes nothing about Trisor's own terms: insured sum, prices and scope of service remain just as good as before. What's new and notable is that the test explicitly names Trisor as an alternative for those affected - more on that below.

How did Stiftung Warentest test Trisor?

The study recorded and compared the terms of safe deposit boxes and bank safe deposit boxes from 52 providers (40 banks and 12 alternative providers). In total, Stiftung Warentest contacted 80 banks and 22 alternative providers such as Trisor; the difference is due to declines ("no safe deposit box available anymore", "offer discontinued") or unanswered inquiries.

In a direct comparison with traditional bank safe deposit boxes, Trisor performs particularly well on availability and flexibility: while many banks no longer offer free safe deposit boxes, Trisor often still has capacity. The current test confirms this trend: specialized providers like Trisor are increasingly filling the gap left by banks - in 2020, just three such companies supplied data for the Stiftung Warentest comparison; today there are 16. BBBank, for example, no longer rents out safe deposit boxes to new customers.

Safe deposit box sizes compared

Stiftung Warentest defined a model box with the following dimensions: 21cm x 4.9cm x 29.7cm (W/H/D) - sized to fit DIN A4 documents and used as the benchmark size for traditional bank safe deposit boxes.

Such bank safe deposit boxes have a volume of about 3 liters and are the smallest safe deposit box offered by most providers. Available sizes vary by location or branch.

At Trisor, safe deposit boxes come in 3 different sizes at every location, so everyone can choose the size that best fits their valuables.

Insurance coverage

Stiftung Warentest also asked whether insurance coverage is already included and at what level. At Trisor, a base coverage of 5,000 euros is already included in the rental price and can be adjusted up to 500,000 euros.

A look at the overall market shows how valuable that is: according to the current test, only 31 of the 43 providers examined include any insurance at all in the rental price. Twelve providers have none at all - seven of them have dropped the coverage since the last study. Anyone wanting to add coverage afterwards sometimes pays noticeably more than before - Deutsche Bank, for instance, raised its price per 1,000 euros of insured sum from 0.57 euros to 0.86 euros.

Cash

Note: not all providers automatically insure stored cash - Stiftung Warentest points this out too. At Trisor, cash in the safe deposit box is covered, a point that comes up positively in many Trisor reviews. In the event of a claim, however, there is a duty to prove to the insurer that the stated amount of cash was actually in the safe deposit box.

How relevant this point is becomes clear from the current comparison: at 14 of 43 providers, cash is explicitly excluded from the insurance included in the rental price, and at three more it's only covered for an extra fee.

Available safe deposit boxes

The figure given by Stiftung Warentest (rounded, in percent) refers to all of a provider's safe deposit boxes. At Trisor, safe deposit boxes are still available at all locations, though there are already waiting lists for some sizes.

Legal background: why your own insurance matters more than bank liability

A safe deposit box provider is only liable without limit if it can be proven at fault - for example, due to an inadequately secured vault. Whether that's the case in an individual instance is often settled only after years of litigation. A recent ruling by the Hanseatic Higher Regional Court (OLG) Hamburg shows just how bank-friendly such rulings can be: five years after a break-in at a savings bank branch in Norderstedt, the court ruled that Hamburger Sparkasse owes those affected no compensation beyond the 40,000 euros already paid (case no. 13 U 95/23) - contradicting an earlier, more customer-friendly ruling.

Attorney Daniel Kuhlmann, who represents around 650 victims of the Gelsenkirchen robbery, calls the ruling "extremely bank-friendly" in his interview with Stiftung Warentest and advises: "Think carefully about which bank you store valuables with in the future." That's exactly why he recommends not relying solely on the bank's liability, but additionally taking out your own, adequately high safe deposit box insurance - in the event of a claim, it typically settles far faster than a court case. (For more on this, see our separate article on safe deposit box insurance.)

Trisor named as an alternative for those affected in Gelsenkirchen

Notably, the current test explicitly points out that customers of the Gelsenkirchen savings bank affected by the break-in can find alternatives about 50 kilometers away in Dusseldorf - naming Trisor alongside Degussa Goldhandel, philoro Edelmetalle and Pro Aurum as a provider there. Independent evidence that specialized safe deposit box providers step in where bank safe deposit boxes reach their limits.

Renting a safe deposit box - how discreet is it at Trisor?

Banks report the opening of a safe deposit box to the tax office. Private providers like Trisor are only required to do so on a case-by-case basis, for example in the event of inheritance.

At Trisor, customers do need to identify themselves once with their ID card, but after that even the rental fee itself can be paid in cash. Find more information on all Trisor locations and renting a safe deposit box in person here.

Conclusion: why do customers choose Trisor?

Our customers' Trisor reviews and the Stiftung Warentest comparison consistently point to the same reasons - and that holds true unchanged after the latest 2026 test as well:

  • 24/7 access with no appointment and no registration needed
  • High security through certified vaults and multi-factor authentication
  • Independence from banks - a safe deposit box without a bank account
  • Discretion: reporting to the tax office only on a case-by-case basis, not automatically
  • Cash is covered - not a given at many other providers
  • Friendly, knowledgeable service at every location
