Background

Typical challenges in cash operations

Many banks are faced with the task of consolidating their branch networks. This raises questions around safe deposit box services that are often underestimated.

Rising costs for transport, counting, authenticity checks, and storage — while revenues from branch operations are declining.

Qualified staff are tied up in cash-related tasks instead of creating value in advisory roles.

The Bundesbank and BaFin impose increasing regulatory requirements for quality sorting, documentation, and return processes.

Providing large amounts of cash in sorted form requires infrastructure and defined processes, which consume significant resources.

Why cash continues to matter in banking operations

Even as cashless payments continue to grow, cash supply remains a permanent operational task for every bank. Business clients and companies rely on the reliable provision of larger amounts of cash in sorted form. For many clients, cash remains a tangible, everyday need.

Banks are subject to a supply obligation. They must provide quality-sorted cash and remove unfit notes from circulation in accordance with Bundesbank requirements.

Business clients, retailers, and companies regularly require larger amounts of cash in sorted denominations. Reliable and discreet provision represents a tangible added value in corporate banking.

A functioning cash logistics system is essential for smooth branch operations and provides operational stability.

Case study

Cash service despite counter closure

Branches can be merged and processes digitised – but that doesn't make the demand for cash disappear. When a private bank in Hamburg closed its counter operations after relocating, this exact question remained open: how would customers access larger amounts of cash going forward, especially in corporate banking?

In late 2025 the bank outsourced its cash logistics and has worked with Trisor ever since. Together with cash-in-transit provider Ziemann Valor, the requested amounts are made available at the Trisor location. Collection takes place either at the counter or – for access independent of staff availability – via the Trisor transfer compartment.

The cash service was not just preserved, but became more accessible to customers than before. We're happy to discuss in person how this could work for your institution.

We do not just provide infrastructure – we take responsibility for the entire cash cycle and sustainably relieve your institution.
